AllMusic Review
by William Ruhlmann

A disclaimer on the back of this disc warns, “All single artist tracks are by the original artist but may be re-recorded. Tracks featuring groups may not include all of the original members.” That doesn’t explain why the photograph on the cover features three of the original members of the Mamas & the Papas, Michelle Phillips, Denny Doherty, and John Phillips (but not Mama Cass Elliot), even though Michelle Phillips doesn’t seem to be on the recording, while Spanky McFarlane does, even to the point of getting to sing her Spanky & Our Gang hit “Sunday Will Never Be the Same.” Probably, the other female singer is John Phillips’ daughter Mackenzie Phillips, who performed in the latter day lineup of the Mamas & the Papas. The other male singer besides Phillips sounds more like Scott McKenzie than like Doherty. In any case, this is an inferior-sounding live recording by some later configuration of the Mamas & the Papas, singing the group’s hits as well as the John Phillips solo single “Mississippi.” Buyer beware.
